Question

Lightroom Classic isn't exporting captions

Running 15.3.1 and exported JPEGs are missing the caption. Other metadata is there. Can’t see it in Get Info as normal, and when trying to burn the caption using a watermarking app the caption is missing.

This is a massive bug.

I messaged adobe through Facebook and they confirmed that there is a sporadic bug. they recommended downgrading to version 15.2. At first it didn’t work but then I noticed what I think is a new field called label that is adjacent to the caption field and my caption was in the label area. I’m wondering if that’s what the problem is that captions are getting moved into that other field. But I haven’t confirmed it yet

When it comes to bugs, Adobe support isn’t very reliable -- this forum is generally more authoritative. There haven’t been other reports here of your symptoms.

The Label field has been present for a very long time. But it’s display next to Caption may have changed recently. You can customize what fields are displayed in which order in the Metadata > Default panel by clicking the Customize button at the very bottom of the panel.

Hmm, I’m not seeing that with my LR 15.3.1 / Mac OS 26.4.1 and Windows 11. That suggests there’s something particular to your configuration or your photos.

To narrow down where the problem might be, I suggest that you package up a test case:

    1. Select one of the problem photos in Library and do File > Export As Catalog, with the options Export Selected Photos Only and Export Negative Files.

    2. Place the JPEG exported from that photo into the exported catalog folder.

    3. Zip up the exported catalog folder and attach it to your reply.  As long as the total size is less than 49 MB, it should attach without problem.

    4. Do the LR menu command Help > System Info, click the Copy button in the upper right corner, and paste into your reply here, so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

    5. Attach a full-resolution screenshot showing the complete set of Export options used to export the JPEG.
