Question

Lightroom Classic left sidebar jumping all over randomly.

For as long as I can recall, the left sidebar in Lightroom Classic jumps around seemingly at random when doing organizational tasks. Having hundreds of collections, this becomes incredibly frustrating when having to scroll back to find your place among the folders you were creating, naming, or dragging images into. Is there any fix for this?? It's one of the most annoying UI bugs I've ever experienced and drastically slows down workflows.

I use the search field at the top of the Collections and Folders Panels to pinpoint specific collections/folders.

Example:

If I am dragging files from an Audi collection to a Vehicle Collection, I put "Audi Vehicle" in the search field and limit the Collection list to a reduced subset of my actual collections.

You could make a formal feature request but you will likely find some will not like 'locking' things down like you are suggesting.

In any case, this is working as designed and not a bug.

That tip is a very helpful workaround. Not sure why I've never used that feature. However, I remain unconvinced that a scrollbar deciding to arbitrarily jump to another spot making lose your place is intented functionality. It should stay where you left it until you scroll somehwere else. But thanks for weighing-in!
