Question

Lightroom classic modifies modification date in file.

Hello,
Coming from lightroom 5.7, where this problem was not happened. I have no idea what is wrong.
I imported all settings to Lightroom 12 classic. And it works fine.
Until I discovered, when I am in library tab and I just click a photo jpg, or tiff, Lightroom modifies the modification date. 

So when going through a a lot of files yesterday. Is coursing my backup system to reupload all files I just looked at. 

This never happened in 5.7.
In 12 classic it now does this with jpg and tiff and sometimes psd files. DNG and other raw files does not seem to be influenced.

Now about 210 Gb is uploaded to my backup again 😞
Hope there is a solution

Have you enabled Catalog Settings > Metadata > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP?  As you browse through your catalog, LR could be incrementally updating its internal representation of develop settings from LR 5 to LR 12, which in turns triggers an update of the metadata back to the file.  Nothing to be done about it except disable the option (which many of us prefer not to do).
