Question

Lightroom classic moving files very slow

I have been using Lr classic on a PC for nearly a year and I use drag and drop to move files between folders - this worked well until yesterday when the function almost stopped. It now takes a very long time to move any files from one folder to another. I am not aware that I have changed any settings although it is possible as I still have a lot to learn about how to use Lightroom. Any suggestions as to why this is occurring and how I can speed it up again, thanks?

Do the move in your operating system and reconnect LrC to the new location of the photos.

Instructions (see Figure 3 and Figure 4): https://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm

Note: the author says "For various reasons, not least of which is the fact that Lightroom Classic can be really slow when moving folders. As such, many users find that it is easier and faster done outside of Lightroom Classic using the tools provided by the operating system (e.g. Move and Copy)."

But I've been moving files quickly and with no problem until yesterday - very easy to drag and drop instead of having to relocate them - so why would this suddenly change?

Are you trying to move A LOT of files? are you trying to move from one disk to another? There are many things that could have changed. Anyway, the recommendation is to move in your operating system and not inside LrC, regardless.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
