Lightroom Classic no longer usable due to long (long) pauses
I haven’t been using LrC recently (the last 6 months or so) during which I’ve seen several updates. Today I needed to process several hundred CR2 images (5760x3840) and find that performance has gone through the basement. Switching between images now takes anywhere between 2 and 15 seconds with no rhyme or reason for the long delays. Even skipping back one image, which is usually instantaneous, sometimes takes 5-6 seconds.
Here’s my hardware:
- Ryzen 9 7940HS (8 core 16 thread) with Radeon 780M
- 64GB memory
- LR catalog, previews, and raw cache are on a local SSD
I have tried all settings of GPU acceleration (off, on, auto, custom) with no discernible effect. I tried increasing the raw cache size to 50gb, but LR doesn’t seem to be using it. After scrolling through about 200 raw images, total cache usage is only 28MB, far below the actual size of the raw files (11GB)
I’ve also optimized the catalog, purged the raw cache and regenerated standard previews. That last step helped somewhat but it’s still slow (sometimes painfully).
Is this just the current state of LrC, that it cannot run well on my hardware any more?
