Lightroom Classic running slow after latest updates

I recently updated my iOS to Ventura 13.7.1 to be able to downloaded the October updates to LR Classic and PS.  After doing so I am finding LRC to be running slow on my iMac.   Basically, when moving the sliders there is a delayed reaction that is slowing my workflow down.  Currently I have around 275GB of 1TB on my harddrive available and for the most part before doing the update I wouldn't experience a slow down in LR unless I had less than 20% storage space available.  

 

If I exit LR and restart my computer it usually runs well for a few minutes and then starts running slow again. 

 

I am using a 2017 iMac and running the latest version 14.0.1 

 

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

This is probably not the cause, but it is odd:

 

Library Path: /Users/donniewhitaker/Pictures/Lightroom/Backups/2024-11-13 1204/Lightroom Catalog-2-v13-5/Lightroom Catalog-2-v13-5.lrcat

 

  • Is that the correct catalog
  • Why is that catalog if correct in a backup folder
  • Why the redundancy in catalog folder naming: /Lightroom Catalog-2-v13-5/Lightroom Catalog-2-v13-5.lrcat
  • Why is the folder structure so deep
  • Have you lost control of your files on that computer. Multiple copy's, old junk, Files not where you meant to have them. etc.

 

If that was my MAC, and I had to place the catalog on the one internal hard drive, I would go for something like:

 

Library Path: /Users/donniewhitaker/Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom Catalog-2-v13-5.lrcat

 

or better yet:

 

/MyLightroom/Catalogv14.lrcat

 

But it is your workflow.

 

Remember that catalog is a database, Cluttered databases run into issues, Complex (i.e. long) file structures add length of database records, Keep it clean.

Are you suggesting I just rename the catalog or start a new one?   

 

As for the redundency, it could have something to do with the Adobe assistant who tied into my CPU to troubleshoot removed LRC from my computer and reinstalled it and then used the backup copy to bring back in all of my photos.  Hence "backup".  He also cleaned up a bunch of old files but it didnt' help.

 

This all started when I updated to Ventura OS to be albe to update LRC and PS.   Everything was running well with Mojave and the previous versions of LRC and PS.

I am now suggesting that that Adobe Tech fouled up your file structure. It is now a mess.  You may need to clean that all up. Going forward it can just get worse.

Hi all,

 

I am circling back around regarding a LRC issue I continue to have.  I have done a bunch of trouble shooting and also had an assistant at Adobe tap into my CPU to clear things, move things around , look at settings and also reinstall both LRC and Ps and I am still having the same issue. 

 

Basically, after installing OS Ventura to be able to do the Oct releases of PS and LRC my LRC (14.0.01) has been really slow.  The sliders are slow to react, the brush is slow,  importing and exporting is slower and moving between images is slow.  It is causing a real problem with my workflow for clients and I need to get it resolved asap.  

 

I am working on a 2017 iMac that has 16GB and 1TB memory SSD.  Currently I have about 30% space available.    System info is below.   Any help would be greatly appreciated..

I'm having the same problem,  but now it is taking forever to load an image when you click in it. Was this ever resolved? I have resorted to using photo machanic to cul thru images because lightroom is too slow!

    My LR Classic has been running slow on my desktop for a few months now.  Today, after uploading 100 raw files, it would take a 2-3 minutes to move from one image to the next. Very exasperating and a huge drain on my time and patience.  From a quick scan of other comments, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of help or options but wanted to post this in case someone has a suggestion and hopefully Adobe will also take note of all the issues users are having.  I don't have this issue on my laptop, just on my desk top where I am running Windows 11 on a Dell 11th Gen Intel i7 with 32 GB ram and 2 TB hard drive that is not full, 64 bit operating system.  The issue is not my computer .  Lightroom consumes a ton of memory when it is open, pushing the memory to 98-99% and is overheating my external SSD drive where I'm backing up my raw files.   I can't leave it open for very long, therefore, my files don't get synced.  Have not used Bridge for culling and initial adjustments but maybe I need to give it a try.  Any other thoughts or suggestions?

    That really does sound like a very bad memory leak somewhere. To be sure and at the risk of you hearing this for the thousandth time, have you made sure the GPU driver is fully updated by using the driver from the GPU manufacturer's website? Many problems like this are caused by bugs in the drivers. 

    Bridge is awesome and much more light weight than Lightroom Classic for sure. Definitely an alternative if you run into this extreme slowness issue. Running camera raw from bridge gives you all editing options (and more actually) that are available in Lightroom.

    Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I am not sure how to make sure
    the GPU driver is fully updated, but will investigate.
    And will venture over and check out Bridge. Been using LR for 10 years, so
    old habits die slowly!

    It might be reindexing the sync catalog which can take some hours to a day. If you are syncing to the cloud from Classic, try pausing it and see if that helps. Also, if you have "automatically write changes into xmp" checked, that might lead to an initial slow down after the update which should resolve after some time.

    Same here.
    I’d say my workflow has dropped by about 80% due to the delay in switching from one image to another.
    Windows 11 Pro  /  i7-13700H 2.40 GHz  /  32.0 Gb  /  RTX4060 8Gb

    My problem with Lightroom is mainly the start up time. Computer running and nicely warmed up, click on the icon to open Lightoom  Classic CC, go away, make a cup of coffee, drink coffee, come back and wait another coiuple of minutes for Lightroom to catch up withy itself! once open it runs fine.

     

    HP Envy 34 running Windows 11 Home, i7 11700 @2.5GHz, 64 Gb Ram, RTX 3060 6GB - 1tb hard drive at less that 50% used.

    Problems only started after last update to Lightroom from Adobe. Tried clearing unused software from system and clearing out all the junk - no difference.
