Lightroom Classic showing as New Photos all sorts of pictures I don't want to import

When I connect my iPhone to my computer, Lightroom Classic wants to import -- as if they were "New Photos" -- several types of pics that are not new.

1. All the pics on my iPhone appear checked as if they were New Photos, even if they're already imported.

2. Photos I already deleted on my iPhone appear as New Photos.

3. Photos I edited on my iPhone appear duplicated -- in both edited and unedited form.

4. Pics I've recently looked at on my iPhone appear checked as New Photos, even though they were uploaded long ago.

This makes it very time consuming to import the right photos, leads to a lot of dupes, and results in me accidentally importing stuff I dont want to keep in LRC.

Is there a fix for this? Is there a setting I don't know about? Please help!

I have the same problem. It just started recently, LR used to mark already imported photos correctly, but no longer. Would be great to have a solution
