Lightroom Classic suddenly crashing after interrupted import (Mac)

Hi everyone,
I’ve been using Lightroom Classic daily for about 6 months with no issues, but it suddenly broke after a normal import from an external hard drive. The import didn’t complete, I closed my Mac, and since then Lightroom has been unusable.

Current behavior:

  • Lightroom Classic opens, but:

    • freezes/spins when I click Import, or

    • hangs during startup (catalog / plugin loading)

    • When I have ligthroom open the activity monitor says (Not responding)
  • Sometimes it opens, but any mouse click causes the beachball.

What I’ve tried:

  • Reinstalled Lightroom Classic twice

  • Deleted catalogs, backups, plugins, and cache

  • Created brand-new catalogs

  • Reset preferences

  • Disabled GPU acceleration

  • Gave Lightroom Full Disk Access

  • Restarted multiple times

  • Tested with no external drives and with a single JPEG from the internal drive

Still no change.

System:

  • Macbook pro 14 macOS Tahoe 26.2

  • Lightroom Classic 15.1.1

Has anyone seen this or know a fix?
Thanks.

Something got corrupted, but it will be very difficult to find out what that is. Maybe your best approach is to use the Creative Cloud Cleaner app, that uninstalls really everything, and then start over by installing the Creative Cloud app followed by Lightroom. https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/apps/troubleshoot/download-failure/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
