Lightroom Classic won't import certain files

I have a folder with three .jpg files, four .nef files, four corresponding .xmp files and one .psd file. I am trying to import these files into LrC, but the import dialog only shows one .jpg file, the four .nef files and the one .psd file. So two other .jpg files are not recognized. They can be opened, however, in both Photoshop 2023 and Preview 11.0 with no problems.
Looking at the original folder with Bridge, everything appears as it should, including the two "missing" .jpg files.
Notes: macOS Monterey Version 12.6; Lightroom Classic 12.0.1.
This began to appear as a problem after I tried to move some of the files from one folder to another in Lightroom Classic by displaying them in folder 1 and dragging them to folder 2. When that failed, I tried some other things (which I cannot remember entirely). I eventually rebooted the computer, created a new catalog and tried to import from the original folder, but again two of the .jpg files were ignored. They do not even show in the import dialog.
I have included the two .jpg files.
Will someone please tell me what obvious step I have forgotten or ignored?
