Lightroom Classic won't launch

Hello,

My Lightroom won't launch.  When I try all I get is the spinner. I have tried through creative cloud.  I tried uninstall and reinstall.  I see where people need to reset preferences in lightroom but how do I even get to preferences in lightroom if I can't get the app to launch?  This is on a imac OS ventura 13.2.1 8GB.  I'm not very tech savvy so I hop someone can help me.

Hi Patricia.  I may be having the same issue on my Mac mini which is also on Ventura 13.2.1.  The Lightroom Classic is version 12.2.1.   I opened Lightroom Classic yesterday after being away for a couple of weeks. I then let it sync with the cloud to get all the photos that I'd edited on Lightroom on my iPad.  As has been the case for a couple of years now, not all photos are downloaded from the cloud and it was showing the it was "Syncing 1 photo" but in actuality it should have been downloading more.  In any event, Lightroom wouldn't shut down until I "Force Quit" it. When I tried to launch it again, the screen indicated that it was starting to launch bit it didn't.  So I shut down the computer and tried again.  Same thing.  I even deleted Lightroom and started it again but no luck.  I called Apple Tech support.  He had me go the Activity Monitor.  Then under CPU I found Lightroom Classis was running, but not responding.  I clicked on it and the "Force Quit" it there.  I then chose "Disc" and looked for "Lightroom Classic" there but it wasn't.  If it had been I would have clicked on it and "Force Quit" it there too.  I then shut down the Activity Monitor.  Then successfully launched Lightroom Classic.  Note the issue is not fixed but this gets around it.  Hopefully Adobe is monitoring this chat and will take a look at what's the issue with LRC 12.2.1.  Hope this helps you too.

Try logging into another Mac user account (you should make a new one); still spinning beach ball?
Try starting up in Safe mode (hold down Shift Key when booting*); still a problem?

* How to start your M1/M2 Mac in Safe Mode
On your Mac, choose Apple menu () > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds.
Press and hold the power button until the startup disks and Options appear.
Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.

If it's not launching it can't act on keys pressed while launching...

I don't use LR, but I do this in other apps. The timing is critical:

  • Hover over the keys as described in LRQueen's blog and be ready to hold them down (but don't do it yet)
  • Launch LR — you have 1/10 of a second to do the next step
  • Press and hold the keys and don't release until the alert comes up asking to reset Prefs

If this is new to you, it may take a couple of tries. It's all in the timing.
