Lightroom Crashes When Changing Pixel Dimensions In The Export Module

Whenever I attempt to modify the export dimensions for a jpeg lightroom freezes/crashes (permanent spinning pinwheel and force quit reveals that lightroom is "not responding"). this happens 100% of the time. below are the steps that reproduce this problem:

1. select "export" from the "file" menu

2. select "For Email (Hard Drive)" from the lightroom presets

3. try to enter a different number for the width and you get the spinning pinwheel

i have attached a screenshot showing the window just before i hit the "return" key.

this happens both from my ibook pro and my desktop mac. both running current mac os and current lightroom. This has been a problem for many, many months (possibly years?)

any thoughts? please help... thanks!

(never mind) - I just noticed the comma in the "1,000" entry and wondered if that was confusing matters

good eye for detail!

the comma is generated by lightroom. so even though i only type in numbers, lightroom auto-formats the input with a comma. and after resetting the prefs, it works fine... commas and all! 😉

I see - thanks for update. I've never seen that before - mine doesn't do it - it might be a regional option.

Works fine here on LrC 11.2 and MacOS 12.2.  Exported 6 files at a different width.

thanks bob! it appears to have been a preferences issue of some sort. Apparently, this has been happening to people as far back as 2018 based on the thread where i found the solution:

To clarify... does this only occur when you are changing dimensions? Can you proceed if you don't change the width?

Can you confirm what email client are you using? If it is Gmail you may need to set an application specific password in order to send email through Lightroom. If you have a non-gmail account try using that instead of gmail.

hi cmgap,

since i posted i found some other information online about relaunching LR with shift+option in order to reset the preferences (and then relaunching). that worked! although, obviously, i lost some of my settings (like custom color label names) but not a big deal to recreate. much better than crashing constantly! 🙂

in terms of your email question, i somewhat mistated the problem. it would happen if you were exporting for email, or if you were exporting to the hard drive. i believe before i fixed it just now, it exported fine if you didn't try to enter the width or height fields. but once you clicked in and tried to change the number, that was the end of it.

thanks for trying ot help!!

I've been strugglign with this for WEEKS and it has drastically impacted my workflow. Thank you for the shift+option relaunch recommendation - this seems to have worked for me!
