Lightroom culling larger raw files slowed with new update

I shoot photos for a news outlet full-time with three different cameras. I have a Sony A1, a Sony A9ii, and a dji mavic pro 4. I edit on my 2021 16 inch MBP with 16gb RAM. I updated lightroom the other day and I've noticed that culling through the raw photos, arrowing through as I make selects,  from the A1 and the mavic 4 pro (Bigger files than the a9ii raw files) has all of a sudden become incredibly slow. Each photo takes a moment to load and this makes going through a card of two thousand photos to make my selects pretty frustrating. It's being read from a CF express card in a reader into a usb port that's always worked flawlessly. Going through an SD card of raw files from the a9ii works as it should still... Just having problems with the bigger A1 + Mavic 4 pro files.

I have minimal previews on, use GPU and use GPU for preview generation has always been on auto. I've purged the cache and upped the cache size to 20gb. I have 250gb free on my hard drive.

I've tried restarting light room, booting from an older backup of the catalogue, restarting the computer...

Are there any new settings I need to turn off / on? Kind of out of ideas.

Help please! Thanks in advance.

“Thanks for posting. Could you try enabling the GPU only for display and check if image loading becomes faster?
Go to GPU settings, switch to ‘Custom,’ select only ‘GPU for Display,’ and unselect the other modes. Please restart the app after updating this preference and let us know if it helps.”

Yep I've tried this. Doesn't affect the slow speeds at all.

Are you doing the culling with the images still on the cards? That would be far slower than importing them to the internal drive and culling from there.

I've been doing my culling straight from cards for years and never had a problem with speed until this update.

My suggestion is to try another port, cable or reader. My personal experience with MBPs is that on two relatively new machines, I had USB port failures.

Also, give importing everything to LrC a try and then do your culling from the internal drive. See how that works.

If you want the VERY fastest culling, I highly recommend Photo Mechanic: www.camerabits.com.
