Lightroom displays gray thumbnails and Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview

Something is wrong with the preview functions of Lightroom. I've had the problem since installing the new version of Lightroom. I have followed all the instructions in this post: Lightroom error on preview cache or displays gray thumbnails (adobe.com) and the problem persists. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Nothing works. How can I fix this?

The issue was storing the catalog on a cloud drive. I moved it to my computer and the problem went away.

Check your monitor profile. Gray thumbnails can be a hint to a corrupt profile.
