Lightroom edits not showing on hard drive

Edits I make in Lightroom Classic are suddenly not showing on my hard drive. Today I imported a simple jpeg and made some edits. But now the edits can only be seen in Lightroom as if they are not being applied to the actual image on the hard drive. I tried to re-import the image in different ways (add, copy, or move) and it does the same thing. Any info???

Since when is that different? LrC is non destructive, those edits would not be applied to the original unless you export, and only then if you export on top of it. .

That's standard behavior. That was since version 1 of Lightroom like this. Lightroom does not modify the original file. During the export phase, it creates a new file with the edits applied. This allows you to revert the edit without losing quality.

I just realized that I never edit jpegs. I alway edit RAW files, then create jpegs. It makes sense now, thanks.

Great! That is indeed the correct editing order. (Even that you can "edit" JPEGS or TIFFS the same as raw files and then export them to whatever you want.
