Lightroom freezes immediately as soon as I apply one single edit.

I just brought a brand new computer, with more than enough of the required stuff that lightroom needs to run. EVERYTHING is new. Some people keep telling me I need a "Clean reinstall of my Windows 11" but Windows 11 was purchased brand new and not updated from my windows 10 on my other computer. Im at wit's end and my work has come to a crashing stop becasue of this. Im not a professional, but I am frustrated that I can't work on my craft and I don't even want to take photos now because I know I can't process them.

After hours of installing and reinstalling lightroom classic, and reading "how to's" on the internet, i did find one thing that might be a clue. My operating system is Windows 11 and yet when I check lightroom settings, it says I am running on Windows 10. Perhaps its a a hold over from the Adobe Creative Cloud when I use to run Lightroom on Windows 10 on my old computer. I tried reinstalling the whole adobe application but Light room says it is still working on Windows 10. My hunch is that this is the problem but I have no idea how to fix it.

HELP! PLEASE! I am ready to look for an alternative photo processing program.

What version NUMBER of Lightroom Classic?

What GPU and driver NUMBER?

Try deleting your preference file. Try turning off the GPU (Preferences->Performance->uncheck "Use Graphics Processor")

My Windows 11 computer also shows as Windows 10 in LrC. I don't think that's the problem.

Hello, Thank you everyone for your responses. I really appreciate the kindness. I haven't been able to respond as I have been swamped at work and the little free time I have, I am not eagar to frustrate myself with this issue. But it's Friday, so I do have a little time to look into this a bit more. I really miss working on my photos. So I will try to relply and folllow through some of your suggestions.

Ok, a lesson I learned from my last new computer vs. LrC, although my crash was not as immediate. And this can apply for either a prebuilt store bought PC (Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, etc) or a store built PC ( Micro Center, etc) or a self built PC.

Have you made sure all the various drivers are up to date. Not just the OS, not just the GPU, but the various drivers for the computers Motherboard, The LAN, Chip Set, Audio, VGA, Bluetooth, SATA, etc.

In my case it was the Chip Set.

The computer might have come with a utility for that. And Windows Update may not cover all of that. The computer, or motherboard mfg will have a support page on that.

That is not your problem or cause of problem. That is a long standing annoying bug in how LrC and Windows are communicating that bit of info.

Yes, not helpful, but pointed out to direct you away from a false lead.

It started when I used the Mask brush. I would make one single stroke and then the computer would crash immediately. Then I experimented with the exposure slider and the contrast slider and they crashed after one single movemnt of the slider. I wasn't even able to move my slider as much as I wanted before it crashed. For some reason, the cropping tool works.

Hmm. Not sure about that. Perhaps pasting my system into the post might work...?

I think this is the information you mean for the GPU info: AMD RX6600 12 (FL 12.1)

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! I think it weorked. I reset my preferences and now its working like a dream. I am a skeptical person so I am worried about a relapse but it looks good for now. I reset my preferences! I didn't turn them off. The link you sent was for resetting and besides I was kind of afraid to turn them off as I couldnt see how the program would work if I turned off the GPU plus I wasn't certain I knew how to do it. But that worked. Any guess to what was the problem originally?
