Lightroom glitch - heal tool

Hello! I am a private photo editor, and I work mainly with Lightroom catalogs with smart previews only from my clients. My Lightroom Classic is completely up to date, and I work on a Macbook Pro M1 2020. I am noticing a glitch happening with the heal/clone/content aware tools where sometimes it shows a green or black box where I used the tools, and this affects the whole image making it darker until I remove the heal/clone and re-do it. This causes an issue for some of my clients having to go in and re-do the healing when they receive their catalogs back. Is this a known issue or something that can be fixed/worked around?

Are you applying heal /clone/content after creating a mask?

Sometimes, but not in all cases.

Please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

Are you clients sending you lossy-compressed Smart Previews? It would be helpful if you could obtain the following for us to review:

  1.  Original DNG file from your customer
  2.  A single-image catalog containing the DNG from item 1 (in Smart Preview form) as a customer might have sent it to you.

There was a bug in the past where lossy-compressed DNGs could exhibit artifacts when using Heal. this bug was fixed quite a while ago.

It would also be nice to know both your and your client's current Lightroom version number.

Thanks.

This happens with several clients, not just one - and I also see it sometimes within the catalog. I am not sure about lossy-compressed; they are sending me an exported Lightroom Catalog with Smart Previews (no raws).
