Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo. You will not be able to make adjustments to the photo.

When I loaded the most recent photos to Lightroom, I got the error message:

"Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo.

You will not be able to make adjustments to the photo."

Many of the photos are black in the bottom half. I tried to edit anyway and encountered the message, "Unexpected end of file encountered".

I have about 6 weeks experience using Lightroom, have loaded about 500 photos in 8 different loads and have never encountered this before.

The photos in the camera look ok.

What could be the problem? Software, camera (Nikon 7100) or mac hardware?

Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

Then the problem is on the camera card, either the card has gone bad or the camera itself didn't write the photos properly, or it could be the transfer hardware (card reader or cable). You might want to try a different card in your camera and different transfer hardware).

I have been using Lightroom for years and this has just started affecting random files. It gives me an additional information saying "an unexpected end-of-file occured".  This is really annoying, showing a blurred . I can correct this by editing the file in Photoshop and saving it, it then reverts to the original quality. This seems to be related to the software. As i have a monthly subscription the software is presemed to be the most up to date.

The photos in the camera look ok.

Do they look okay in another application like Photoshop or even at the finder level?

Good point. I checked the photos in Finder and the bottom half of the bad ones are black. Again, I will try some camera and SD card tests. Thanks.

The photo is corrupted somehow, and you cannot use it in Lighroom. You need to restore the photo from your backups or from the camera card, if available.

A second load of all 70 photos from the camera card brought similar results. The raw photos are not complete and some appear to be truncated. The jpg version of the photos on the second camera card are all fine.
