Question

Lightroom imports photos in random order

The latest version of Lightroom Classic (9.3) doesn't seem to import photos in any logical order. If I sort the photos by filename or timestamp, it still imports and renames them in random order. This is a problem when I try to rename a sequence in similar names like 001, 002, 003, 004. This function was working well in previous versions.

I'm running LR on IMac 2019.

Just import first, sort and rename later.

That's probably what I have to do.

Set your Sort: order in the Import dialog wiindow to Capture time. That should place all images in the correct order at the time they were taken. Then do your import with renaming.

Test this before you do another real shoot.

This doesn't help either. 😕😕

Unfortunately this workaround doesn't work anymore with the latest update.

Unfortunately, Adobe has never officially documented what the import sequencing should look like. Normally, using a card reader, it seems to be alphabetically within a given folder while the order of the folders may be questionable. Reading the files directly from the camera is a craps shoot for sequencing.

For this reason, using the "import sequence" number is usually discouraged. Using the original file number is usually a better option.
