Question

Lightroom is reapplying presets to images I have edited in Photoshop

Hi - I have run into an issue this morning where Lightroom is reapplying a preset to images I have edited in Photoshop and have saved back into Lightroom. Usually I apply a preset to my images automatically when I import them and have no issue for any that I have to edit additionally in Photoshop, but today Lightroom has decided to add this preset on top of images that already have it applied, which is resulting in slightly off-looking images. Has anyone else run into this problem? I’ve spoken to my colleague with much more experience than me and he says he’s never seen this happen before. Thanks for any advice you can give. If it helps I’m using a Mac and running Lightroom Classic 15.3.1

I would update to Lightroom Classic 15.4 first. There have been a few compatibility issues between Lightroom Classic 15.3 and Camera Raw 18.4 that is installed when you update Photoshop, so this might well be another issue. Adobe won’t fix anything in Lightroom Classic 15.3 anymore, because 15.4.1 is now the latest version.

Unfortunately that hasn’t worked and it’s still happening :(

    Thanks for the suggestion though

I tried to reproduce what you are seeing with 15.4.1, Photoshop 27.8 and MacOS Tahoe 26.5.1, but I don’t see it. I set a B&W preset as preset to automatically apply on import, so the effect would be obvious, but the image from Photoshop returns in Lightroom as it should, and is not converted to B&W due to this preset being applied.

    Are these RAW images?

In Lightroom Classic, do you use the command Edit In … to send the photos to Photoshop?

In Photoshop, do you use Save As … or Save? On Save will work, if you use Save As … then your import preset in Lightroom Classic will be used when you Import back into Lightroom Classic.

Thanks for your reply - yes these are RAW files, yes I use ‘Edit In’ from Lightroom to open images in Photoshop and I only use ‘Save’ not ‘Save As’. I’ve not had a problem with this in the past so I’m not sure what could have occurred to change things.

For one of the images that has this problem after it comes back to LrC from Photoshop, what does the History panel say? Can you show us a screen capture of this History panel?

Can you show us a screen capture of the image when you finish editing in Photoshop and a screen capture of how it appears in LrC? Please tell us in words some areas of the photo that appear different to you.
