Lightroom - masking filter not being applied to photo

Hi,

With my latest set of imported photos - I have been applying filters as per usual - but a few of them I have tried applying a radial mask to. 

The mask shows the pin and allows me to adjsut - and even with the oevrlay shows what I want it to look like.

But - as soon as I click out of the filter or back to library - the mask is not applied. 

When I go back to develop - the pin is still there and when I click on it it shows what I want it to do - as soon as I click off the pin the filter applied does not transfer to the photo - Is there a process that I am missing? I am sure it used to do that automatically
