Question

Lightroom not recognising RAW files from my R7 camera

I have just bought a Canon R7 mirrorless camera, taken some shots (in RAW) and uploaded them to my PC. I had to download the latest version of Digital Photo Professional before I could open the pics but can see them now. If I go into Lightroom and try to Import from that file it does not show these new photos. It sees other photos taken with my previous DSLR which I haven’t yet imported  (all checked and ready to go) but the new ones are missing even tho I can clearly see them in their PC file. So it seems that Lightroom is not recognising my RAW files from the R7, even tho it is a compatible with Lightroom camera.

I have version 6 of Lightroom, installed in 2017. I paid a one-off purchase price and do not have a monthly subscription. Is my problem this lack of upgrade or am I missing something else? Would converting to DNG solve the problem?

Thanks

Since Lr6 doesn't support the EOS R7 you'll need to convert your files to Adobe's DNG format. The free DNG Converter can be downloaded from below link. However, first make sure that your Operating System is capable of running it.

Canon R7 was released way after Lightroom 6, sure it is not supported.

You have two options to solve this.

1. Costs money - upgrade to latest version of Lightroom Classic, it will work with files from Canon R7.

2. Free - download and install latest Adobe DNG converter, change compatibility option for older ACR in settings and convert your images to DNG. Then you'll be able to import and edit them in Lr v6.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks.

I'll try the DNG route
