Lightroom opening catalog

Yesterday when I opened my LR - none of my photos were showing. You can see that there is 800 photos, but they are not visible. Someone suggested that I re install my previous catalog. Since yesterday morning - right through the night it keeps on saying that the Catalog is opening. I cannot access LR at all.

I even shut down my computer - still nothing

If you are sure that you use your actual catalog I would suggest to reset the preferences to the default settings first.

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

Did you forget something, a screen shot maybe? I cannot see anything.
