Lightroom sync number keeps getting stuck/growing

Lightroom is struggling to sync images/collections which I've selected to sync and is stuck/fluctuating syncing between 7000-8000 images and have no idea why. The number keeps going up and down constantly.. I have tried optimising catalogue, updating software, rebuilding sync data, etc.

I am away from my main desktop a lot of the time and really rely on Lightroom CC on my laptop to get work done and haven't been able to because the images haven't synced. Any suggestions very welcome!
