Lightroom thumbnails grey

Video files and stacked files seem to be crap-out my lightroom catalogue thumbnails. I've updated the the latest version of LRC and 'optimised' my catalogue, even tried generating previews, but they seem to hang up when they hit a video file, which didnt used to happen. Is anyone else experiencing that? I'm on a mac.
