Lightroom will not allow "add" feature when importing form external HD

So Lightroom all of a sudden stop recognizing my external hard drive as something that was able to simple add photos to my catalog from. I have worked with the work flow of saving all my raw files to an external drive and simple add them to my catalog located on my computers internal drive for years now. This is very frustrating and I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I am working with the Latest version of OS 10 on a 2014 MacBook Pro.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

When was the last time you restarted your Mac?

Shut down your computer, disconnect the external drive, Start your computer and let it boot completely. Then connect the external.

Please state what the external drive is, make and model and whether it is USB powered or has an AC adapter.

I have the same issue after installing Ventura OS, for years I could add to a new Catalog on an external HD, now the Add option has gone, ? Help, LR is useless to me without this function. I have numerous hard drives with catalogs I need to "add" to often. MacbookPro, the issue is on Lacie, G Drive, and Porche Design external hard drives --ie all of them.

Did you check this: Apple changed the security requirements in MacOS Monterey and later. Go to MacOS 'System Settings - Security & Privacy' and add Lightroom Classic to "Full Disk Access". Click on the lock icon to unlock the settings (not needed in Ventura), then click on the plus icon to add Lightroom Classic if it isn't already listed. If it is listed, then just enable the checkbox (or the switch in Ventura). See also Quick Tips: How to give Full Disk Access to Lightroom Classic on macOS
