Lightroom will not import while other operations are in progress

LR 2015.10

OSX 10.12.4

I've had this issue for a while, but Lightroom will not import photos while other operations are in progress.  I can go to the import dialog and edit all my settings there, but when I hit import, nothing happens until other progress bars are finished (say, building previews from previous memory card's import).  Once other operations are finished, import begins as normal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi maxphotography,

If the other operations are consuming enough memory to prevent the import process to start, it is normal for Lightroom to hold off from importing to prevent a crash, till enough memory is available.

Thanks,

Akash

Hi Akash,

Thanks for this.  That makes sense.

Is it normal, then, for the building of 1:1 previews to use nearly 16GB of RAM?  Or at least enough of it to disallow importing?

I'd recommend building 1:1 previews when you import those images. This will run in the background while you can work on other images in Lightroom.

Thanks,

Akash
