Question

Lightroom won't let me upload images from new mirrorless camera

Hello!

I've been using Lightroom for a very long time, my current version is 5.6, I've been uploading from my Canon 5d mark iii effortlessly. I just got a new Canon mirrorless camera with an sd card and for some reason it is not letting me upload images from that card. Any ideas why?

Thank you!

If you're using a new model mirrorless camera, the file will be CR3 - Camara Raw 3 that Lightroom 5.6 will not be able to open. Your Canon 5D uses CR2. So, your only option is to use the DNG converter unless you upgrade Lightroom to a modern version, then you won't have any problems if you use your new camera.

You have to keep up with the times!

Lightroom 5 was introduced in 2013, and will not open raw files from any camera that was introduced in the last nine years or so.

You can either subscribe to the 20 GB Photography plan for 10 US dollars a month, which includes Lightroom Classic (successor to LR 5, now on version 13), and Photoshop (as well as the cloud based Lightroom) – or use the free Adobe DNG converter to create DNG copies of the raw files from your new camera that can be imported in LR 5.

Read the instructions carefully.

Please tell us the exact make and model of your new mirrorless camera.

It is highly likely that your old Lr 5.6 cannot import photos from that new camera.

Hello,

Are you uploading from the camera to Lightroom, or are you using a card reader?

If you are not using a card reader, try using a card reader.
