Lightroom won't restart

Hello:

The following sequence occurred with my Lightroom software:

  1. Lightroom froze
  2. After waiting for awhile, I turned off the computer
  3. I turned the computer back on
  4. When I clicked on the Lightroom icon, I got the following message: "The Lightroom catalog named "Lightroom catalog" cannot be opened because another application already has it opened.
  5. I am then given three options:
    1. Choose a different catalog
    2. Continue
    3. Exit
  6. None of these options results in the software opening.

I suspect that the software did not close properly when I turned off the computer. But I am not sure what to do.

Thanks,

Mel

Hi Mel

Go to your folder containing the catalog. It is usually in Pictures by default. If you see a file for your named calalog ending .lock you should delete it. Do not touch the .lrcacat file or preview folders. Only delete the lock file. Then try re-launching Lightroom.

You're replying to a five year old thread.

Please create a new thread of your own, and provide a detailed description of the problem.

Also tell us the exact version of Lightroom Classic, as well as operating system and version.

I have just had the same problem as Mel.

I have just upgraded to LR CC classic V9.0 on Monday.

It has been working fine but froze in the middle of  moving a photo within a current catalogue on the screen.

Despite closing LR and the computer and restarting the same error message as Mel's comes up and I am asked to change my target catalogue.

How do I resolve this issue?

Thanks

Peter

But 99jon's solution did not work. I keep getting the same message
