Limited GPU acceleration in LRC 12.4 on Intel Macs?

EDIT: after re-updating to v12.4 from 12.3 it shows support for full acceleration again... sigh... 🤪

 

Lightroom Classic v12.4 shows me that my system supports Limited Acceleration in Settings/Performance.

 

This is on a 2019 27" Intel i9 iMac, Radeon 580X 8gb, macOS Ventura 13.4

 

Puzzled by this, I downgraded to v12.3 — which shows me that my system supports Full Acceleration. Great!

 

So what's up with that, and can anyone with a similar Intel Mac tell me what they're seeing for LRC v12.4?

After an update, the GPU test carried out at LrC launch can sometimes mistakenly downgrade the level of acceleration support, although 'Off' is more typical. Usually, setting the GPU preference to 'Use GPU for  Export' is sufficient, but it looks like you've resolved teh issue by first downgrading to 12.3 and reapplying the 12.4 update.

 

If you're looking for a more definitive answer, then I suspect you'll be a very long time waiting.

Thanks for the explanation Ian. After posting this I saw that the other method to "reset" the GPU evaluation is to delete some text file; I guess that would have done the trick too. 🙂

Yes, very likely that it would have done.

 

BTW, the GPU changing mode is not unique to LrC. I've seen it happening in LrD and ACR. Fwiw, the new alert (see attached screenshot) would have been more useful had it also flagged mode changes rather than just the GPU being Off, especially as they're unexpected/unwanted and appear to be more common.
