Locate dialog box is empty when trying to find missing photos

I am searching for my missing photos and when I get to the locate dialog box on my computer to find the photo or relink the album, it is empty. Even if there is a folder there, it is empty. Attached is the dialog box showing how my entire pictures folder is essentially empty. Do you know why this is and how it is to fix it? Thank you!
