Lost photos after synch

I decided to test what would happen if I synched a photo, so I selected a photo and hit the button. It started to synch ALL my photos. I quickly stopped the process, but now when I try to work in Develop on some of the photos, it says they are unavailable. What do I do

Trying to interpret your reply.

I do think you are now possibly talking about syncing develop settings from one photo to another selected photo (one or more). Then you go and mention 'Collection sync'.!!!

If only one image on the filmstrip was highlighted then you should not see the [Sync] button! It only appears when you have multiple filmstrip photos selected. So you must have had multiple images selected. ( [Ctrl+D] is useful to be sure ALL photos are un-selected.)

It presents you with a dialog where you can select the adjustments you want to sync to the other selected photos. And nothing then happens until you click [Synchronize]. It doesn't mess up- your actions might!.

"When I click on the images that I can't work with, I see "The file could not be opened." One change since yesterday, I can now see the image, but all the develop menus on the right of the screen are greyed out."

Post a screen-clip of this error message and these images that "could not be opened"- I do not understand "greyed out".

"The thumbnails do not have an asterisk or an exclamation point, but every single image in all the collections are labeled "test synch""

I have never seen "test synch"- post a screen-clip this. Collections marked to sync has nothing to do with syncing Develop adjustments from one image to others in the library. Again I ask - Which "sync" process are you really confused about?

The dialog for Develop adjustments Sync does show- [Synchronize] will apply the settings of the 'Most Selected' image to ALL the 'Less Selected' images. [Cancel] will simply exit the Adjustment Sync process.

I did not see this dialogue box come up when I pressed that synch button.

Thanks for clips.

As your thumbnail preview does not show the 'Missing' icon [!] the message might indicate the file is corrupt in some way. Can you view the photo with File Explorer, or open in another editing app?

If an image is determined to be 'Missing' it will show the [!], (or a folder missing [?] ), and the Develop module would show- "...Not to be Found" as in my example-

I do not see you Folder panel or Filmstrip in your screen-clip that might offer more clues.

The "Test Synch" is file metadata shown on the thumbnail border when you have the thumbnail in Compact view. It has noting to do with the Develop adjustment sync process that I can determine.

It could be from any of the metadata available for the image (Folder, Filename, Rating, Capture Date....etc.)

Press [Ctrl + J] in Grid view to see your options, and what is set in the [Top Label] field-

I think you might need some basic tutorials on the working of Lr-Classic to fully understand its functions.

I decided to try to understand what would happen if I synched a photo. So I highlighted a photo I didn't care about, and hit the synch button. Lightroom Classic started to synch all my photos. So I hit the stop button. Now there are a number of photos in my catalogs that won't open in the Develop mode. What did I do wrong, and how can I undo it?

Which "Sync" process did you try?

1) Sync Develop adjustments from one image to another?

2) Sync(hronize) a Folder of images?

3) Mark a Collection of photos to Sync to the Cloud?

4) Clicked on the Cloud icon to [Sync] with the Lightroom Ecosystem (Cloud)?

Did you have more than one image highlighted? There can be one 'Most selected' (Brightest border) image, and multiple 'Less selected' (Less bright border).

What do you see when photos "won't open in the Develop mode."? Any error messages?

Are you photos in Grid View marked with an asterisk [ ! ] on their thumbnail borders?

And which [Stop] button did you Click?

Copy & Insert a Photo (screen-clip) of the report you see from MENU: Help > System Info...
