Lost pictures on Lightroom Classic

I had trouble with my computer last night (speakers were not working).  It is a new computer as in one month.  I called support and they deemed I needed new speakers so they are coming Monday.  When I got back on my computer half of my photos (random order) would not load.  The message was that the catalog was corrupt.  I set it to repair but only part of them came back.  I called tech support back.  He clearly had no idea what to do and claimed it was because they were in jpg format not jpeg.  I found several jpg in the catalog that were still there but he said he thought it was a adobe problem not the computer. Any ideas

If the repair only brought some photos back, please check for backups or run a disk check to rule out hardware issues. Also, .jpg and .jpeg are the same, so that’s likely not the problem. If you can share your Adobe version or the exact error, it might help narrow things down

I  add this to the list of utter nonsense that reportedly Adobe support has told people.
