LR 5 [unable to import because files cannot be read]

I have lightroom 5 and have been having issues for a few months.  It started with an issue where photos would not import and then they somehow deleted.  I thought this may be a corrupted card and so wrote the issue off.   Lately, LR hasn't been responding and I have to force quit.  Tonight I tried to import a session and kept getting an error that the files were unable to import because they couldn't be read.    Any ideas?

It was a card straight out of my camera.  I tried another card from my camera and it had the same error.

Can you explain in simple terms?  (sorry!)

Its the Destination folder from the Import Dialog.

    See the screen capture.

You need to have full read and write permissions to the folder you are coping the image files to.

In Windows using explorer in your operating system select the destination folder and right click on the folder and select "Properties" > security and make sure you have read and write permissions or full permissions.

In Mac OS X right click o0n the folder in finder and select Get Info then select read and write in the dialog box.

Quote " kept getting an error that the files were unable to import because they couldn't be read.    Any ideas?"

This error message is displayed when the folder that has been selected to copy the files to be imported into does not have the required permission read and write for the user to complete the import.

This has to be corrected using the Computer operating system or you need to select a different location to copy the files into.
