LR 6.12 error with "mov" video files

Hi all,

I'm running LR6.12 with Windows 7 and it's suddenly refusing to handle video files (mov). I've tried a couple of different solutions suggested on here, but hit a dead end with each one.

First off I turned off virus protection, and this allowed me to import videos to LR and see the first frame of he file, but  not play the videos or to work with them... I get the error message "there was an error working with the video". This seems to happen with all my video files, including older ones that LR was perfectly happy with a few days ago.

Second suggestion I tried was to purge the video cache through the "Edit>Preferences" menu - I get the "Video cache is being purged" message, which stays in place for 12 hrs +.

The final suggestion I've tried is to reinstall the video_tookit.dll file, following instructions provided here : Error "Sequencer defunct" when using video file related functions.

However, with the newly downloaded tookit file installed, I am unable to restart LR, and get an error message about the "Catalogue could not be loaded due to unexpected error". I even created a brand new catalogue to try this again, with the exact same result. If I delete the new toolkit file and reinstate the original, LR will open again (but obviously still minus video functionality).

Any further suggestions or advice would be very much appreciated - I'm out of ideas and can't seem to find any other possible solutions on the forums!

Thanks!

Hi siquana,

Have you tried disabling the GPU from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps? Also, refer the link below for the related discussion and try the offered solutions.

I've been using Lightroom for several years now, and the 6.12 update seems to have introduced a problem with playing videos. As the poster above mentioned, I can see the first frame of the file, but it won't play. But it doesn't always do this. If I exit Lightroom and restart it, and then try to play the video it works fine. However, if I've been editing photos for a while, then when I try to play a video it often doesn't work.

But if I exit Lightroom again and restart it, the same video will play just fine.
