LR classic 13.0.1 writes XMP over and over

In LR Classic 13.0.1 on Windows 11 , every time I pause and then unpause saving metadata it writes XMP for over 1,000 photos.

It does this each and every time I pause and then unpause "Save XMP".
I have attached a screen capture GIF below demonstrating me pressing Pause and then resume three times in a row.  Lightroom claims to be saving the XMP for over 1,000 photos each time.  No idea which files it's saving the XMP for.  I let it sit for an hour, thinking maybe it's only queuing the save, but it still does exactly the same thing.
I have Nikon NEF files and Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max HEIC files.  Don't know if those are part of this problem or not, but I do not get XMP sidecar files for the HEIC files.

    You might have a know bug in LrC where XMPs are effectively saved and up to date BUT instead LrC thinks otherwise and keeps saving XMP ad infinitum.

     

    The solution is rather painful.

     

    1. Pause "Save into XMP".

    2. Filter for "Metadata Status"

    3. Find and the photos that are not up to date (has been changed, edited externally ,etc...)

    4. Save Manually.

     

    Now you are certain that all are saved do: Read Metadata for all of them.

    All should be good.

     

    IF after this resuming Save Into XMP shows still photos being saved then at step 3 you must display all the photos in your catalog (use small thumbnail and scroll slowly down) because LrC Metadata Status filters are also bugged and we need to actually display images for LrC to pick up photos that are not up to date.

      Thanks! I have now done that for my 120,000 photos using the metadata conflict filter.  There were some (don't know how many total as I did them in batches).  Now it tells me there 117269 photos up-to-date, 0 conflicts detected but 598 changed on disk and 1283 unknown.  I selected the 5988 unknown, selected all and saved and that got it down to 562 with 1283 still unknown.  I believe these are all video types: MOV and AVI files although some say MOV+JPEG.

       

      Now "Save XMP" is saving about 378 photos -- it counts down pretty quickly so I can't tell exactly how many but it's not 562. 

       

      If I filter my entire collection by file type, Video is 1755 files.  "Changed on Disk" + "Unknown" metadata status adds up to 1845 files.  I'll bet these are the video files plus maybe the MOV+JPEG files (doesn't seem to be a way to filter for that, nor for RAW+JPEG which would be useful for getting back some disk space).

       

      Hopefully Adobe will figure this out and fix it.

        Hmm, I do not at this time have a solution, but I do have an observation, your Address Lookup is running. Why? May simply be a default setting was reverted to without being asked. (I noticed the same in my rig)

        I turned address lookup on after returning from our last trip, and left it on. I figured once it had resolved all the GPS coordinates, it would suspend.  In any case, I paused it but it didn't change the behavior of "Save XMP".
