LR Classic - Masks Continue to Disappear

Hi, all! I am a sports photographer and I when I process a large edit - sometimes hundreds of photos - the AI masks continually need to be updated after I have put them on. When I go to export the batch, the masks are gone. I have had to export one or two at a time but that's not sustainable time-wise when I have to turnaround a ton of images. I am up to date on the version. I have uninstalled and reeinstalled to no avail. I NEED a possible solution / fix.

I'm on a 2019 MacbookPro. 2.4 GHz 8-core Intel Core i9, Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5600M, 8 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB, Memory: 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

(I won't pretend to know what that means, but I think it helps if anyone has a suggestion).

Thanks in advance!

Drew

There is a long thread about this, and the last answer in this thread also gives some info, but perhaps not enough. AI masks are stored in 'Catalogname.lrcat-data'. If the contents of this folder gets corrupted, or if the permissions of this folder are not correctly set, then Lightroom may not be able to write to this folder and so the masks will not be saved. That is why they need to be updated all the time. What usually solves this is to delete that entire folder. Then start Lightroom again. Lightroom will once more ask you to update all masks, but that creates a new folder and should solve any corruption or permission problem.

With LrC closed, use MACOS Finder, navigate to the folder your catalog is in. See if you have a folder named something like:

  • Lightroom-v13.lrcat-data
  •

Or whatever your catalog is named.

If this file does not get kept, then upon restart, LrC will need the masks to be updated. This may be a folder rights issue. I think several members with MACOS have run into this.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
