LR Classic randomly restarts PC when 'Use GPU for image processing' is enabled.

Whenever I enable the feature 'Use GPU for image processing' my PC will randomly reboot around every 15-30 minutes of working on photos.  This has been happening with all versions released since this feature was added at the end of 2019.  I have a i9-9900K, 64GB RAM, & a GeForce 1070Ti 8GB video card.  I have tried multiple different drivers that don't seem to make any difference.  I have no issues with any other apps/games on my system doing this so it must be software related.  This also happens in Photoshop randomly if I select any level of GPU acceleration setting above 'Basic'.  Anyone have any idea what the issue might be?  Anyone have a 1070Ti they can verify it works for them?

I do not know if you have already accomplished what is in the link below, but a nice performance boost.

 

Now after you accomplish what is in the link, how LrC treats the GPU in /preferences/performance can change

 

(f your computer is a laptop, you may not want to accomplish this as it ramps up power usage. If your computer uses a low low voltage GPU, it may not work at all (thin slim rigs that use little battery life, typically all in ones)

I believe my issue has been resolved.  I installed the latest Nvidia drivers using the clean install option and I also disabled the integrated Intel GPU.  I used lightroom for a couple hours with no restarts.  Thanks for the help!

possible issues

 

You have more than one descreate GPU and they do not match

 

Somehow the integrated video controller is getting in the way

After you inspect that GPU driver, start Lrc, bring up preferences, select the performance tab, make sure the use Graphics Processor option is set to automatic, not custom.

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Past that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs.

As to the GPU driver, try and reinstall the latest driver, but when you do, select custom install type as to force a clean install. Just in case garbage was left behind.

    PC randomly rebooting is often a driver issue, but you seem to have ruled this out.

     

    So, what other possible causes are there? Hardware malfunctions. In this case, it could be bad memory chips, it could be a bad sector on a hard drive, it could be the cooling system is malfunctioning, it could be a defective CPU or GPU; and probably a few other things. You need to run diagnostics on all of these components.

    dj_paige, Yeah I defintiely don't think it's hardware related.  Like I mentioned I have no issues in any other apps/games and I've done some long stress tests on my hardware and never had a hiccup.

     

    davidg36166309, Thanks for the suggestions.  I will try doing a clean install of the video card drivers and see if that helps.  Also regarding the 'integrated video controller is getting in the way' that is a possibility as I have the integrated Intel GPU enabled in Windows for encoding purposes so I can try disabling that to see if ti helps.  Below is the sys info from LR.
