I am running LR Classic 14.5.1 on my 2024 iMac OS-X 15.6 and yesterday uploaded 3000 shots from a baseball championship tournament. I was culling oof shots, adjusting straightness, cropping to print etc and then LR statred locking up as in the spinning wheel of death. Now, In Library I can see the photos but if I go to Develop the photo is blank. If I go from Library to Print, the photo is missing. Back to Library, see the photos, press to go to Develop and it works until I select crop, etc. Photo disappears and I have to reboot my computer. I have 24gb RAM and 149GB of 500GB free space on the internal SSD. What should I be trying to get this resolved? Unistall LR Classic and reinstall? Use the percussion test?
PS LR updates were done earlier today.

Hello,
Based on the symptoms you're describing—the spinning wheel of death, blank photos in the Develop and Print modules, and the need to reboot—it sounds like a rendering or performance issue, which is often tied to the Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) settings in Lightroom Classic.
Here's a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:
Disable the GPU: This is the most common fix for issues like the ones you're experiencing.
Open Lightroom Classic.
Go to Lightroom Classic > Preferences (on Mac) or Edit > Preferences (on Windows).
Click on the Performance tab.
In the Camera Raw section, uncheck the box for "Use Graphics Processor."
Restart Lightroom Classic. See if the problem is resolved. If it is, this indicates a conflict with your graphics driver or the GPU itself.
Update your GPU Drivers: If disabling the GPU fixes the problem, you should check for a new driver for your iMac's graphics card. Even though you're on a Mac, and OS updates often include driver updates, it's worth checking for any specific updates or bug fixes.
Optimize your Catalog and Previews: A large catalog with many high-resolution images can slow down Lightroom.
In Lightroom Classic, go to File > Optimize Catalog. This can help with performance issues.
Go to the Library module, select all the photos from the recent import, and go to Library > Previews > Build 1:1 Previews. This can be time-consuming but can make working in the Develop module much faster.
Check for Missing Files: The fact that the photos disappear in the Develop and Print modules but are visible in the Library module's grid view suggests that Lightroom Classic can see the catalog entries but is having trouble locating or rendering the full-resolution file.
In the Library module, check the thumbnails for a "Photo is missing" icon (a gray box with an exclamation mark). This would indicate that the link between your catalog and the actual image file has been broken.
If you find any, right-click on a thumbnail and select "Find Missing Photo" to relink it.
Reinstall Lightroom Classic: While it's often a last resort, if none of the above steps work, a clean reinstall could fix a corrupted program file. However, your issue seems more related to how Lightroom Classic is interacting with your system's hardware and files rather than a core installation problem.
It's unlikely to be a RAM issue given you have 24GB, but keep an eye on your Activity Monitor (on macOS) while Lightroom is running to see if the CPU or memory usage spikes when the spinning wheel appears.
