LR Mobile Setup Confusion

I thought I understood LR Mobile and CC and the links between the two but I guess not completely.  I thought the only photos that would sync between the two were the collections in LR CC that I had set to sync.  Buy my iPhone has 1936 photos in the All Photos view  of LR Mobile but I only have about 10 or 12 collections being synced with nowhere near that many photos.  Where are these coming from?

On the CC side under Preferences/Lightroom Sync, it says there are 1923 photos but I'm not sure where it got these and I assume these 1923 are in the 1936 that LR Mobile sees.  In the Location section, I have specified the location for LR's ecosystem images.  On an external drive, I have /LRMobile/year/month-day and I have approx 30 of those folders with different dates and a few pictures in each but total just over 100.  I also have an iPhone Pics collection which I have sync'ing with LR Mobile but for the life of me, I can't remember why.  I read an article about how to get my iPhone pics automatically into LR I think.

Help! Is there a good description of how to set up LR Mobile with CC?  I'm afraid if I just delete these pics from LR Mobile to start over, they'll be gone in CC as well.  Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Julieanne Kost has an entire series on using Lr Mobile at her site. >> jkost.com

Look for late 2016 videos.

She then, very recently, posts videos about using Lr CC (cloud version) with Lr Classic.

She explains, quite clearly, that even though both Classic and the new Lr CC can be used together, it is not the purpose of the new Lr CC.

Note she says "which". She doesn't explain how to use them both synced to a cloud.

I don't use LR CC (cloud based).  I only use LR Classic CC (all my photos stored locally) and LR Mobile.    Just as another data point, I went into LR Classic CC and turned off synching for all collections.  Now on my iPhone I don't see any collections/folders but I still have 1786 photos and I'm just not sure how they got there.  LR Classic CC thinks there are 1763 photos so my iPhone has 23 more for some reason.

LR CC, the older version, is no longer called LR CC. It is now called LR Classic CC (CONFUSING, YES).

You may have the option turned on to Auto Add images on your phone to LR CC Mobile.

In LR Classic CC on your computer look at the "All Synced Photographs" entry in the Catalog section of the left hand panel in the Library module. Does it show that total number of images as it shows on your phone?

I am using LR Classic CC and not the new cloud based LR CC first off.  Secondly, no the numbers don't match per your 2nd point.  On my iMac, All Synced Photographs is 1882 and on my iPhone in LR Mobile, All Photos is 1905. Why are they different?  And why are there so many more photos in All Photos vs the collections I set up to sync?  Thanks.
