Question

LR running very slow.

I had an old MacBook Pro and a purchased version of LR 5. It ran smooth.

I now have a top of the line MacBook Pro and signed up for the Creative Cloud Lightroom version.

My new set up is significantly slower than my 4 year old set up.

I did nothing to optimize my old version on old laptop. How is it possible that 4 years later and everything is way slower?

Scrolling through previews, applying presets, making brush strokes... everything is 50% slower.

* I upped optimized my catalog and my increased cache already.

** I am editing directly off my internal drive.

*** I generally only have Spotify, Chrome, and messenger open while editing. It is it possible to allocate more RAM to LR?

Any help greatly appreciated.

How big is your monitor (in pixels)?

Brushing on a 4k or larger monitor has been known to cause this problem.

Hi gurufoto,

You may try turning off the GPU from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps.

Open Lightroom > Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Perfomance tab > Uncheck the GPU > Restart Lightroom.

Let us know if that helps.
