LR Slow and Catalog error message

Since the recent update, LR locks up and and there is a very long lag time moving from one photo to another.  Also I get this message during exit / backup.  The catalog is fine and the old backup files on my external drive have been deleted.  Both of these issues are sporadic. Should I uninstall then reinstall LR?

    Have you checked the folder permissions for your backup folder? It's possible that it has been changed to read-only. Also, how much free disk space do you have on your main hard drive? The message on the dialog box indicates some things for you to check. Have you done that?

    79% free space on my computer (PC) and I had no problems deleting the backup files.

    As I said, this all started when the last update occurred.

    Sorry, same questions as before. If you haven't done that, I have no other suggestions.
