LR unable to find multiple files if they have a space in the filename

expected result: 25 files

actual result: 0

 

I just pulled my hair out for two days trying to figure out why a string of comma delimited, properly formatted plain text file names would not appear in a library "text" search. After much googling, i found another LR user on a forum here in the adobe community where someone posted that they had this issue and it was because of a space in the file name.

 

YOU MUST FIX THIS. This has been a known issue for minimum 6 years, but I suspect it goes back much further. Its very easy to accidentally have a space in a file name by accident when batch renaming files and actually made me feel absolutely insane for the last two days.

LR's text search is operating as designed, but it was never particularly well-designed, and Adobe hasn't made any improvements to it for at least 15 years. While waiting for hoped-for improvements, and building on GoldingD's reply, see this post in particular for two workarounds:
