Question

LR xmp presets - when saved in folder and when as a single-file under userpresets?

When are xmp presets saved under folder and when as a single preset under User Presets?

By mistake I have deleted a preset folder in LR. However, whe I save the preset in CameraRaw/Settings again, I see everything as a single file in UserPresets and no longer in the folder. Another problem:

I have two similar sounding preset folders.

- White Collection by MM

- BB - White Collection

LR does not recognize the second folder (neither under folders or under UserPresets), even if I change the name of one folder and/or the xmp files! I've tried many things:

- Folder with xmp-files

- Folder with subfolder and xmp-files

- Changed the name of folder and the name of the xmp-files

- Name contains no special characters.

Why is that? Does LR still store an old version somewhere? (All lr-templates have been deleted in the folder Lighroom / Settings / Development Presets) , also all UserPresets under LR folder and ACR folder.

Are there any guidelines that must be observed?

spaces, spellings, an name may only be assigned once...

When is it considered a new name? is BuffaloBaby the same as buffalo baby of buffalo-baby / buffalo_baby? Is this recognized as one name or as different?

I just don't know what the problem is and have done nothing but ry to find a solution or hours now.

I would be grateful for your help.

And maybe this relates: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic/presets-not-importing-or-being-organised-properly/td-p/10166875

I suspect, if you copy the presets, just the presets, not the folders they are in, to the proper location, exactly where you have been placing them, then they might behave.

Good to know! Not tried yet, but a very interesting and helpful tool!

Thanks and best regards,

Ah, Ok, a couple of things

1. Renaming folders containing presets generally does not change how the show up in the presets panel. I suspect some bit of data is read, and that is used for the display name.

2. For those presets you copied, but wind up displaying within the User presets. And  you may have tried this. Import them. Not at a computer to test, this comes from memory (never trust human memory), locate them say in a download folder, or wherever, not the settings folder. Import them (I am trying to remember if the import process will copy them to the correct location). now they should wind up in exactly the same folder you probably put them in before, but something in the import process creates the proper bit of data.

Ond bugger, can not import multiple presets.

I could be very wrong on that.

Hi David,
thanks for your reply! I tried both suggestions  - leave the original name and I downloaded the presets again (originally) and put them under my personal harddrive.

Both didn't work.

So decided for these two presets collection to import them individual and shift them from the UserPresets folder to my self-created-folder with the name I would.
But if you have hundrets of presets, that will not make sense.

Thanks and best regards!

Hi David,

thanks for the links, but they don't apply to my questions. It's all about old and new profiles, that I already know about.

1) One certain xmp-preset folder was correctly placed under AppData/Roaming/Adobe/ACR/Settings.

But why the presets are shown in the UserPrests folder and not under the folders preset name.

All other old and new presets folders were displayed in the correct folder name! Why not in this one, which has already worked?

2) I have two similar sounding preset folders.

- White Collection by MM / - BB - White Collection

LR does not recognize the second folder (neither under folders or under UserPresets), even if I change the name of one folder and/or the xmp files!

3) Are there specifications for naming?

Thanks for helping!
