LR5.7.1 not recognizing Nikon D5600 RAW files (NEF)

Need some help. I recently purchased a Nikon D5600 and have not been able to import any of the RAW files. I can import them after using the DNC converter, which i found out about on the forum here, but you loose a bunch of the file data when you convert it. I have tried pulling down an updated plug in, but to no avail. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

    That camera requires at least Lightroom 6.8 in order to have support for the NEF files. That means you will either have to purchase Lightroom 6 or subscribe to the Creative Cloud. What data is being lost in the conversion to DNG? You have all the original raw image data. It's just being packaged in a new wrapper.
