LR5 to LR Classic on a new computer

I currently have LR5 on an iMac 2010 and I'm due to received a new iMac M3, on which I'll be using LR  Classic. What's the best way to upgrade my old catalogue? Thanks

  1. Move the catalog file from old computer to new computer.
  2. Move the photos from old computer to new computer, keeping folder hierarchy and location of photos within the folder hierarchy unchanged. If you don't follow the part in red exactly, you will have problems. Follow the part in red exactly.
  3. On the new computer, install LrC 13.0.1.
  4. On the new computer, open LrC 13.0.1, then File->Open Catalog and select the Lr 5 catalog you copied. It will ask you if you want to upgrade, you should click on "Upgrade" or whatever the affirmative response button is.
  5. You may need to reconnect the catalog file to the new location of the photos, please read and follow these instructions (and see Figure 4 in particular)

 

IMPORTANT ADVICE: There is no importing of photos in this process. DO NOT IMPORT PHOTOS. No matter how strongly you may feel that importing is necessary, do not import; it is not a necessary step; in fact importing is wrong and will make things worse in this situation.
