LR5 - While Importing ca. 4000 fotos my first HD used >100GB temporarily while LR5 was running.

How can I

a) change the location of the temp files

b) limit the ammount of diskspace used

Btw: It was a clean LR5 installation and the Raw Cache is limited to 1GB

The question you haven't answered is how large is a typical image, in megabytes, that you are importing. If the typical image you are importing is 25MB, then 4000x25MB is ...

Also, please look at your hard disk using your operating system and tell us what is taking up most of this 100GB.

If most of this 100GB is the actual photos themselves, you can import them to an external drive, or move them there after import (Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders )

Before I started to import the fotos to the catalog I had ca. 130 GB free space on my SSD.

After I have imported all the fotos there was only 12GB free space.
The original fotos do occupy 50GB on my other hd.
So the issue can't origin alone from the size of the fotos.
The catalog now has a size of 11GB but not all the fotos have 1:1 preview

After I have closed LR my SSD had 130GB free space again.
After I've switched the Raw-Cache and the location of the catalog to my other HD I didn't experience such an effect again  so far.
