LRC 14.1 mask function not working with Intuos pen - requires de-focus / re-focus to work

Starting masking or adding a mask in LRC 14 works as advertised with a mouse.  With a tablet pen (Wacom), the only way to start a mask or add another is to choose the mask, then click outside the LRC app and the mask shows up.  You have to continue this defocus-refocus maneuver when using a pen for each step of masking.  It began to appear in LRC 13 but is clear in LRC 14.

 

Evaluated by Adobe tech support online after I initiatlly posted this (as a longer post) and has been identified as a definite bug affecting LRC v13 and current v14, referred to development for a fix.

 

Also noticed now that many times when I modify the main image, the Loupe view on the monitor next to it does not reflect the changes...or even flashes black for a few moments.  This is a new phenomenon with the latest release, never seen it happen before.

Turns out that this is NOT a bug.  It's a matter of getting the Nvidia driver to play nice and nicer with LRC.  So one needs to include LRC in the Nvidia driver and then you must click the Optimize button so that it will actually be optimized and work.  Then all of the pen issues with masking evaporate.

 It clearly was an issue of something not talking to something else....now solved.

Yes. Somehow, this is all tied to the combination of video card performance and the increased demands of LRC, perhaps when invoking AI features as it now does more and more.

The problem with masking continues, with slow responses with the pen and speeded up by tapping off the app screen. In fact, just lifting the pen away from the screen makes the mask appear almost as fast as using the mouse, which is instantaneous. 

 

The Nvidia optimization gets turned off if one chooses Auto in the Edit | Preferences | Performance options.  One has to choose Custom.  Just an FYI.  I have tried a by-the-book clean uninstall and reinstall of the Wacom drivers (at Wacom's suggestion) and no improvement.  So this seems still to be a delay / timing issue between LRC and the pen...which defocusing helps.  But that is not how the program should work.

    In Win 11 LRC 14.1.1 (and going back to 13.0 - tested), masking features (starting new mask, second mask, etc.) cannot be started with a pen (Wacom Intuos and Intuos Pro pens) unless you first choose (click on) the mask to make, then click outside the program onto the surrounding background screen and then it appears.  Returning to the mask showing up in the box, you can use the pen to adjust parameters.  This defocus-refocus technique is required for any time the pen is trying to start a mask or register the mask as having a title (rather than new mask). 

     

    If you delete masks, they do not delete completely until you use the pen and defocus-refocus.

    The mark function works perfectly in all aspects and in all LRC versions with a mouse. 

     

    I have tested all potential complications and conflicts in conjunction with an Adobe support tech online on my system (actually 2 techs), confirmed with second tier supervisor and reported as a persisting bug.  This is not due to tablet drivers, video drivers, preference settings, corrupt catalog, pen settings (in Wacom or Windows).

     

    What began as a slowed response to appearance of the mask in LRC 13 with a pen command has now evolved to a full-stop doesn't work in LRC 14 unless you use the defocus-refocus technique for each mask or give up and just use a mouse.
