LRC 15.4.1...

I’ve been using 15.4.1 for the past 10 days now and thought I’d share some experiences and issues I’ve found with the latest version;

  1. The new subject selection tool in masks is superb! I rarely need to make further adjustments after using it now.
  2. I’ve not noticed any change in speed over 15.3 either way and I use a fast W11 PC with 64GB of RAM and multiple SSD’s.
  3. My catalog contains circa 15,000 images which are stored on a NAS with the catalog on an internal dedicated SSD. Every time I start LRC since the upgrade, the NAS is running flat out for the first 5 minutes after which it calms down, why? Initially I assumed it was a catalog upgrade but considering I use it every day surely thats been completed by now?
  4. Duplicate image detection and catalog sort functions are both turned off in the preferences panel as I have no use for them. I’ve included this comment to try and help isolate the issue in point 3 above.
  5. With a slider active, you lose the RGB or LAB read outs below the histogram and to view the actual values you need to close the active slider at which point  the read outs are active again and if you want to make further changes you have to repeat the entire process. This is a retrograde step over 15.3 and ACR doesn’t have this issue either, Can this be corrected in the next update please?
  6. On occasions when using the before and after side by side image comparison tool (Y key), the before image doesn’t get displayed. I’ve been getting round it using the \ key to switch between images when needed.

I’d be interested to hear if anyone has come across similar issues around points 3 & 5 above and hopefully Adobe can address point 5 shortly?

Thanks

John

    Hey, @johnt41947401. Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback on Lightroom Classic 15.4.1 — it's great to hear the new subject selection in masks is working well for you!

    NAS activity on startup: After upgrading to a new version, Lightroom Classic may perform background tasks such as revalidating previews and updating internal indexes. While the initial catalog upgrade typically completes on first launch, some maintenance tasks (such as verifying preview caches against the catalog) can run on subsequent launches, especially with a NAS-based image library, where network latency can affect these checks. If this persists beyond the few days, I'd recommend:

    • Checking if your previews are stored locally vs. on the NAS

    • Running File > Optimize Catalog

    • Monitoring whether the duration gradually decreases

    For the before/after not displaying): A related issue with Before/After views and local adjustments was fixed in 15.4. If you're still seeing this in 15.4.1, could you share a video of what you're seeing?

    You can also share a video of the issue you've pointed out about the LAB and RGB readouts. This additional detail will help us determine if this is the same issue or a new one.

    Thanks!
