Question

LRC catalog problem.

I have been transferring my files to an external HD but not through LRC. But the file destination in the import module was set to C drive. I’ve edited a bunch in C but the saves are going to the HD. The file count in the folders for C are higher than the HD. Both places have all the files. What do I do?

hard to answer without more info:

    1. Are they showing in the LrC Folders panel under “C:” where neither the folder or the images are makred as missing?
    2. Are they showing in tghe LrC Folders panel under “C:” and either their folder or the images are marked as missing?
    3. Does LrC show more than one copy of the images (one on the C drive and one someplace else)?  If yes,  which one has the edits you want to keep
    4. Using Finder/Explorer are they ALSO in some other place?

For best clarity,  take one photo as a representative example..

    • What drive and folder does it show up in in the LrC folders panel
    • Is it or its folder marked as missing
    • Does it have LrC edits applied
    • Is there another copy of it also showing up in LrC folder panel and if so where, is that one or its folder marked as missing, and does that one have any LrC edits applied
    • Does this photo show up on disk using Finder/Explorer and if so where (list all places)

First of all, the import dialog can be used to directly copy images from the SD card to a folder for the specific day each photo was taken after which you can use the Folder panel to add text to the folder name,  but your method is also valid (just a few extra steps).

Seeing as how you already placed your images in their desired day folder before you go into LrC,  when you get into the Import dialog make sure that the import mode (above the grid) is set to “Add”  (not any of the move or copy options).  Then in the left panel select that day’s folder on the H drive.

The import will then ADD those images to the LrC Catalog leaving them where they are on disk.

    Thanks. That seem straight forward.

Can I just delete them from c after that and all edits be there?

I'll try to be clear. I'm not a veteran at it so I may just be doing things wrong. When I first put my sd card in the computer I open the folder in it with my pics. I then in a new window open the EHD folder where all my pics are and open the folder for that year. Then I

make a folder for that day with a description of them. Then drag and drop all of them to the designated HD folder. Then open LRC and import. Until earlier this year it was set to import them to "H" the EHD but it got set to C. When I went to edit pics they were not in H but I saw them up there in C so that's where I went to open and edit them. When I export the edited ones I put them in H. I want them out of C and I need it pointing things to H where they all are already. I haven't monkeyed with it because I know I can cause far worse problems if I do not knowing what I'm doing.

I agree with @Califdan2 , a lot more clarity and detail is needed here. Screen captures would also be helpful. (Just so I am 100% clear, we need you to do both: explain in more detail, and show us screen captures)

Provide more specifics as your post is not clear as to what you are doing.  For example,

Are you moving or copying image files from C to the EHD?

Are you changing folder structure or doing renames of folders or image file in the process of these transfers?

The destination folder in the Import dialog is whatever you set it to on each import.  It usually defaults to the previously used folder.

I don’t know what you mean by: “I’ve edited a bunch in C but the saves are going to the HD”.  I think you are saying that you are making changes to images shown as being on the “C:” drive but then I don’t know what you mean by the “...saves are going to the HD”.

In your 2nd to last sentence you say that the file count in folders on the C drive is more than the count of images on a folder on the HD (with the same name?) but then you say they have the same files.  Which is it and where are you getting the count (LrC Folders Panel or Windows File Explorer)?
