LrC crashing when importing files

Question

Hi, I am new to the community. I have recently bought a new iMac and have the latest updates for LrC installed. Every time I try to import it crashed after only 2 photos! I've disabled the GPU, reset preferences, purged the cache and tried a new catalog. I have plenty of space on my external hard drive and using the same SD cards I've been using for a while now. I've tried two different SD cards and have the same issue.

I never had any issues with my 10 year old MacBook!!

please, does anyone know how to fix this?

Please tell us the version NUMBER of Lightroom Classic (we need the version NUMBER and not words like "latest" or "up-to-date").

When the crash happens, is it just LrC that crashes, or does the entire computer crash and require a restart?
